Why Play Battle Brothers
Heroes
- Contempt: Light Ships and Squadrons take -1 to hit this ship.
- Formation Expert: This ship can redeploy after everyone has been deployed. Useful once you know how the board's set up.
- Lord of Glory: All ships within 24" of this ship auto-pass all morale checks. Handy considering how costs will see you running fewer ships than other fleets.
Titles
- Honourable: This ship's turret gets +1 to hit an enemy that hasn't already been damaged this round. Better reserved for your smaller ships.
- Hunter: This ship's turret gets +1 to hit an enemy carrying an objective.
- Prime Crew: When this ship takes a point of damage that would otherwise destroy it, you can ignore that damage if you roll a 4+.
- Reflex: This ship can shoot before moving.
Systems
- Control Center: Friendly squadrons within 12" can still move despite being engaged. Helpful for getting your Bomber and Hammer Squadrons past pesky screens.
- Deflection Screen: This ship ignores difficult and deadly terrain when cruising.
- Emergency Thrusters: Once per activation, this ship can pivot up to 45° at any point during the move.
- Flexible Payload: When this ship fires its turret, you can opt to take a -1 to hit for +1 to Strength. Worth considering against medium and heavy ships.
- Over-Engineered: The rear arc is no longer a weakness. Enemies don't get +1 to hit from this position and you don't suffer a -1 to block any hits from here.
- Reinforced Spine: This ship reduces any damage taken from ramming or being rammed by -1.
- Run Deck: Friendly squadrons that end their move within 12" of this ship can then immediately move towards this ship.
Weapons
- Bolt Cannon: A decently mid-ranged weapon with Str1. A decent all-rounder weapon if you need to fill in a weapon slot.
- Brutality Emitter: This gun is...incredibly unique. See, you can make it go from Att1 to Att5 at will, but you'll always have to run the risks of Overheating no matter how much you shoot it. If you manage to get an enemy within range of it, you can potentially gut them with this.
- Rear Flank Array: A unique Broadside battery with Att2 Str-, but Twin-Fire allows this gun to hit multiple targets.
- Focus Laser: A long-ranged weapon that can help whittle down ships.
- Mass Accelerator: An absurdly dangerous gun with Str4. While it only has one shot, you gain +1 to hit with this single shot.
- Mass Cascade Gun: A decently useful gun that gains Blast when aimed on the enemy's side arcs. A good consideration for lighter ships who can take advantage of certain positions.
- Particle Accelerator: A rapid-fire gun with Deadly when you aim at an enemy's side arc. Another good consideration for light and medium ships.
- Proximity Guns: Absurdly short-ranged, but this can be fired on every enemy squadron that gets within range.
Ships
Heavy Ships
- God-King Ship: This Cruiser comes with an extra upgrade slot, making this particularly useful for a battle-fortress.
- Greatsword Ship: This ship has only 3 upgrades over the Cruiser's 4, but this Greatsword's turret got a significant buff at 30" range Att3 Str2. This makes for a worthwhile battleship.
Medium Ships
- Helm Ship: A heavyweight medium ship, given a 2+ Toughness. Its turret has an extra shot, but its range took a hit in exchange.
- Rapier Ship: This is basically a Destroyer with a longer-ranged turret. Pick only if you'll be needing that turret since it's 5 points over the generic.
Light Ships
- Buckler Ship: An extreme improvement over the stock, not only is this ship faster at a 10"/15" speed but it also has a 3+ Toughness to withstand more abuse than most ships of its size. Excellent for taking advantage of weak spots.
- Gladius Ship: Another super-fast light ship, but it comes with sacrifices. The Gladius' turret now only has a 6" range in exchange for another shot.
Squadrons
- Arrow Squadron: The fastest squadron that will ever exist. Being Anti-Squadron, its best position is rushing forward to take down enemy squadrons before they can strike you.
- Dagger Squadron: This Gunship Squadron comes with Striker, which gives their turrets +1 Str whenever they aren't engaged, making this a decent ship to use for opening harassment.
- Hammer Squadron: The meanest Bomber Squadron you'll ever face, boosted with a 4+ Toughness and A2 on their turrets. These ships will make big ships hurt.
